Bridgend made its mark as a market town in the 16th century but its history goes much further back than this. For more information please see https://www.bridgendtowncouncil.gov.uk/history-heritage/bridgend-through-the-centuries/

Bridgend is home to beautiful surf-ready beaches, world-class golf courses and some of the tallest sand dunes in northern Europe. Further inland you'll uncover ancient woodland, rugged MTB trails and quite possibly the oldest pub in Wales.

The town itself is fast becoming a ‘foody’ attraction with its great selection of cafés and high quality restaurants including La Cocina (one of our favourites), Francos, Huna, Marble Steakhouse and Gin and Sake to name but a few!

Bridgend Leisure Centre (Halo) is located just outside the town on the edge of Newbridge Fields where you can make the most of the indoor swimming pool, bowls hall, running tracks and large playing fields. For any sporting fans there’s cricket, bowls, tennis, rugby and football played in the fields on a regular basis if you're interested in spectating, or why not get in touch with some of the local clubs if you'd prefer to participate?

If shopping is your thing then Bridgend is lucky to have a McArthur Glen shopping outlet in between the suburbs of Litchard and Bryncethin. It is a hugely popular place to shop, eat in various chains such as Wagamama and Fiveguys, or visit the Odeon cinema.

Bridgend has good access to transport links with the centrally located bus and railway stations and is only 16.5 miles away from Cardiff Airport via the A48, so holiday and work destinations can be easily reached.  Rail services run regularly to Swansea, Neath, Port Talbot, the West Wales line and to Maesteg, Llanharan, Pencoed, Barry, Cardiff, Bristol and London. Additional services also run to Manchester Piccadilly. Most bus services from Bridgend by First Cymru run to many urban and rural areas across all of South Wales, travelling to and from Bridgend really is quite easy. M4 access is available via junctions 35, 36 & 37.

There are multiple comprehensive schools throughout the borough of Bridgend with Brynteg, Bryntirion and Archbishop McGrath RC being the more well known. There are also pleny of choices when it comes to primary, junior and infants schools for English or Welsh speakers. Bridgend and Pencoed Colleges offer further and higher education opportunities in a huge range of qualifications.
