Southerndown is located in the Glamorgan Heritage Coast and is the next village on from Ogmore-By-Sea leading out to St Brides Major, 5.1 miles from Bridgend. Southerndown a popular spot for surfers and walkers, overlooking Dunraven Bay. It is closely situated to the 12th century mansion, Dunraven Castle. The surviving parts of the house are registered as a Grade II listed building with its gardens and park listed as Grade II on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales.

There is a regular bus that runs through Southerndown, 7 days a week from Bridgend bus station with stops in Ewenny, Ogmore-By-Sea, St Brides Major, Wick, Broughton, Monknash, Marcross, St Donats (Atlantic College) and Llantwit Major.
